A Word from the Pastor

According to Genesis, the first book of the Bible, at one point long, long ago humans decided to try to make a name for themselves and built a tall tower to try to reach God. God disrupted the work by confusing their language and scattering them throughout the world. According to the book of Acts, on Pentecost the Spirit gave people the ability to speak in languages with which they weren't familiar. In effect, the Spirit enabled the people to understand one another again.  Perhaps in our world, whenever it is that we really hear and understand the needs and desires, hopes and dreams of those who are different from us, we know the Spirit has been present. The Spirit isn't just a gift that makes us feel good or feel especially close to God, but the Spirit is also a gift that can enable us to create real community with others.

Peace,
