What's Been Happening with Sibanye?

Mholweni! (Hello!) from our friends in South Africa and the first ever 7th grade book club at Tio Soga! It’s story time! We are so proud of our South African teammates for taking the lead on this project and thankful to those of you who helped by donating funds used by Reach to buy books.

In the last year, the Sibanye team has been working with Fogarty’s Bookshop in Port Elizabeth, SA, to resupply Tio Soga and four other reading rooms with books like The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and Beat the Story-Drum, Pum-Pum in English and also in native languages (primarily Xhosa). It was certainly a team effort!

Special thanks go to Peggy Germain and her librarian friend, Janice Durante, and to Claudine at Fogarty’s for helping us to create a starter booklist, sourcing books, and arranging for secure delivery. It’s not as easy as it sounds! But one look at these 7th graders makes it all worthwhile.

Enkosi! (Thank You!) to everyone at Red Clay.
